Take note ladies: 3 best self-defense moves

As the son to one mother, brother to four sisters, husband to one wife, and father to three daughters, these self-defense moves give me hope:

  1. Palm strike to nose or chin. Use the hard base of your palm instead of your knuckles. Drive upward into the nose or chin. This is generally safer for your hand than a punch.
  2. Groin strike. If an attacker is in front of you, use your knee or the top of your foot to strike the groin. The goal is to create enough time to break away and run, not to continue fighting.
  3. Elbow strike. If someone is very close or grabbing you, elbows generate a lot of power at short range. Strike backward, sideways, or downward depending on where the attacker is.

In short, target vulnerable areas—eyes, nose, throat, groin, knees—prioritize escaping over trying to win a fight, and shout loudly to attract attention while escaping.
