No one owes you anything: Why “ghosting” is a good thing

I recently read a story about a college graduate complaining after only 3 of 400 job applications asked her to interview. “The rest ghosted me,” she said.
This rubbed me the wrong way.
When someone says, “They ghosted me,” what they’re usually saying is, “I am owed and/or deserve a response.” The former is never true. The latter is only true in certain and appropriate cases with close friends and family.
In fact, modern psychology rightfully teaches that saying “no” and ignoring inappropriate or irrelevant requests is actually saying “yes” to yourself. In that way, ghosting can actually be good for your health.
So the next time someone tries to shame you for ghosting them, just smile politely. Or ignore them.
You don’t owe them a response.
