My right leg hates me right now.
After four weeks of inexplicable pain in my right leg, I was diagnosed with a herniated (possibly ruptured) disc in my lower back yesterday. Said injury partially blocks my sciatic nerve, making my right leg mad at me.
In all seriousness, it’s rather disabling — causing limping, an inability to sit or stand for long periods of time, and loss of feeling in my foot. Unbeknownst to me, it seems I sustained the injury during my 10K run on July 4.
If only I had maintained my previous life of idleness and extreme atrophy, none of this would have happened. 😉
(I should be fine, by the way, with at least a shot, physical therapy, and time. If not, routine surgery should take care of it. UPDATE: I had surgery in late August. It was a success and I’m on my way back to 100%.)

Bummer, dude .. hope you get ‘back to normal’ ASAP!
Sucks. P.S. Cubs win the championship after the game gets called in the 5th because the benches cleared. The other team thought Keith tried to throw at them, so the guy started approaching the mound while the play was still going… it was a pass ball. Keith charges toward home to make the play, runs into the runner and knocks him down… benches clear. No punches, but the umps said game over after their whole team came out and the ump had to stand between people.
Kind of funny. We were up 3-0 before the inning started and down 5-3, but because of the tempers and a called game, that last inning didn’t count when the ump called the game. We wind 3-0.
Wait, I’m inarguably fatter than you and was certainly in worse shape in every other way, and yet you’re the one who gets injured running? I must be living on borrowed fitness or something.
Man, I hope things get better fast! I almost know how you feel. I have a pretty bad bulged disc in my lumbar and neck, which brings numbness to my hands. The docs have told me its best to hold off on surgery since its not yet herniated, but man oh man, I’m in pain every day. Makes guitar playing pretty tough.
Here’s to a speedy recovery!
Sounds painful. Glad I didn’t attempt the “fun” run with you with doing zero training. I probably would have had something more serious like a leg fall completely off or something like that. If you need to file a lawsuit against Provo city for injuring your back, let me know:)
