Not gross I promise: Anybody else have leukonychia?
If you look closely at the above picture—through the flash glare—you’ll see a little white spot on my fingernail. For as long as I can remember, I get one every few months or so. It’s called Leukonychia Punctata, the most common form of random white spots on fingernails. It is usually caused by a deficiency of zinc in one’s diet or mild trauma to the nail, doctors say.
I’m not sure what causes mine. But thanks to an insatiably curiosity and my ninja Google skills, I finally have a proper diagnosis. Ahhh. That feels better. Anybody else get spots on their fingernails?

I’ve got it.

Yes, I have them too. However, my wife insists that they are sins – yes I have big ones. Just as one disappears a new one comes to light.
Brooks gets those too so I am now off to the store to grab some Zinc supplements.

red meat huh…. wierd. I’m a red meatetarian and 4 fingers with these white spots on them.
I got them to and I eat loads of red meat nor do I have a bad immune system which means I don’t have the disease you just named. Hmmm… must off screwed up my nail at some point…
I just developed one and I’m not sure why. I was told I have iron deficiency (a couple of years ago) and I started supplements for that but now all of the sudden I have this white streak on my one of my nails. I don’t eat that much red meat. Maybe I have zinc deficiency too, which is associated with many disease. I do take a high potency multivitamin, which probably has only 10% of our daily zinc needs.
i always hav white spots and i eat alot of meat and other food with zinc…
hmmm
i’m only 13 and i have one on my right hand i dint notice until i checked when i saw this weird….. but i don’t really eat meat so it isn’t that weird
I have a white spot right now, in fact. I just looked up which foods contain zinc: red meats. Hmmm, I guess it makes sense that I have spots, then, because I don’t eat a lot of meat at all!
Thanks for figuring that out! I always wondered but oddly never thought to look it up!
