Should the spelling of mischievous be changed to reflect de facto use?

Everyone and their dog says “mischEEvious” not “mIschievous.” So should the spelling be changed to reflect widespread American use, or is that English heresy?

I don’t know where you’re from, but it’s “mIschievous” in these parts.

It’s like pronouncing the “t” in “often”. You’re doing it wrong.
